Oh...I ran across this a while ago....add this to another reason the consulting has been such a big win:
Longaberger showrooms aim to boost sales – Coshocton Tribune
A new showroom will open about every month for the rest of the year.
“This is not about the company selling products, but the consultant serving the customer,” Longaberger spokesman Russell Mack said. “Nobody else is doing this. We are redefining direct selling through this mechanism, and redesigning retail.
“It’s the first time a company has taken those two concepts and blended them.”
The original showroom, at The Homestead near Frazyesburg, will open for the season in April. The others are located in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Maryland.
Tami Longaberger, chief executive officer at the Longaberger Co., told the audience at this past summer’s convention, the Longaberger Bee, that the company planned to open stores all across America, creating 400 new jobs in the next 15 months.
“For customers who love Longaberger and lost their consultant, having a place they can go to and reconnect with Longaberger is very important,” Longaberger said at the convention.
Each store, Longaberger said at the time, would employ about 25 people. The Jeffersonville store, the second smallest, has just 10 employees.
The company, which reached a record $ 1 billion in sales in 2000 when it employed more than 8,000, has seen sales decline since its peak years.
Carol Baron, a Louisville, Ky., resident shopping at Tanger Outlets on Wednesday, said she expects the company’s new strategy to boost sales.
