While driving home across some open country after xmas, i was driving during a snowstorm in the sierras and could only get one station in the canyon i was in. And sure as shit, it was rush limbaugh. Now i see where the crazies get some of their ideas, he repeats really stupid stuff over and over.
His rant of the day was about that the most deadly school mass murder was in 1927 and the perp used dynamite, not guns... so in his mind that meant that armed guards were the proper solution and regulating types of guns is equivalent to confiscating guns or having a minimum drinking age or something. And government-paid guards at every school wasn't really an expansion of government.
The stupid blob of wasted protoplasm of course didn't point out that in 1927 one could buy a case of dynamite at the hardware store. And since dynamite became regulated, no one has used it to blow up a school. So in that case, regulation worked. He makes his own points that are not supported by the facts.. is it any wonder that he also ignored the fact that the only school shooting where there was an armed guard posted, Columbine, the guard was outgunned and after shooting at them a few times, he ran and called for help. Which didn't help the kids that ended up dead at all.
At least the NRA isn't lobbying for the return of automatic weapons to the public, so apparently they do understand that some guns just don't belong in civilian hands. I mean, what home is complete without a loaded Thompson submachine gun in the coat closet? Assault rifles were banned for a decade and the republic didn't fall, i don't see much legitimate civilian application of them, other than for mischief. But the huge clips are what makes them into a barrage of overwhelming firepower. The whole idea of solving crazies with guns by putting more guns in the hands of people that are around kids just seems like an escalation, not a solution.
