Zeev, we have never had a utility to ban from specific threads. The idea has often come up, however, and I'm open to it.

If someone is becoming a problem, it generally works well, if I'm made aware of it -- I'll talk to that person and make it clear they aren't wanted on that board and are effectively "banned" from posting there.

Have done this many times.

I also would like to make clear that my vote is for a permanent ban, not a stint in purgatory. Do you really think that his hate and vitriolic drivel will change in 30 days?? A year??
