I have nothing against "anti-Sahron" posts, I doubt the Label "Butcher" fits the man, I know a number of people that served under him, and the last thing he is, is a butcher. During the Yom Kippur war, the Israeli soldiers under his command were quite angry, bacause the attack was mounted on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, of course, in the hope of catching the Israeli "barefoot" and they did. But once the tide was turned, and once Sharon encircled the third Egyptian army, and his commander clamored to eradicate this fighting force for good, he held them at bay, only respond to their fire, he ordered, no sense in killing these soldiers when they pose no threat. These are the words of a great commander, not a Butcher. Political movements are trying to put on Sharon's shoulder the Sabra and Shatila massacre, but when you look at the details of the Israeli High court deliberation, Sharon acted to stop the Christian Phalanges (Lebanese taking revenge on Palestinians for prior massacres the Palestinians perpetrated on the Christians in Lebanon) massacres. The documents show clearly that on a number of occasions prior to the Massacre Sharon warned the Phalanges leader that he will not tolerate wanton killing of civilians.
It does not serve the arguments carried here using inflammatory terms (to some), terms which are nothing bu lies. One can definitely argue what would be the results of another policy. What kind of "incentive" would create an environment where the majority of Palestinians enforce their will for peace on the minority that still declare "A Palestinian State fro the River to the Sea." That battle cries assures one thing, the Palestinians will have no state.
