My goodness there are some severely misinformed people in this world. AAPT is doing a perfect job at marketing 101.
Putting the cart before the horse can be the kiss of death for a product or product line. Why would they advertise heavily?
They need to gauge interest
They need to identify audience
They need to target demographically
They need to shoot with a rifle instead of a shotgun
This is a boutique product and will not be bought by lower income folks. It's easily a true specialty product and will only be purchased by upper income households.
They need to examine every piece of info on these initial sales to determine who their customers exactly are.
Marketing 101
Who What When Where How
... on what will make this a successful venture. We know they've based this product on feedback and field work. I'd rather have to have patience and let them spend their ad money wisely than just shoot with a shotgun and blow thru millions of ineffective advertising.
Lets give them some slack and critique when it's appropriate. Anyone trashing them now is unjustified. Marketing is a science. Proper process and procedure needs to be followed. And YES, past failed ventures/ideas/products are a wealth of information.
Knowing how not to do things is just as valuable as knowing how to do things correctly.
There is no substitute for experience.
Long and strong $AAPT
