Does he have much experience with firearms in general? I'm all for gun ownership and, when they're older, intend to introduce them to my children. So long as they understand the potential consequences of mishandling and show responsibility and maturity in handling them, I see no problem. IMO, education is key here.

I would say that before he is allowed to purchase it you guys should make him take some sort of course.

Probably not a bad idea for you to make it a whole family thing.

Just my 2cents. And remember Canadian cents are now at about par with American cents.

Don't let them get it until they can recite these rules forwards and backwards.

1. Treat every weapon as if it were loaded.
2. Never point a weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot.
3. Keep finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to fire.
4. Keep weapon on safe until you intend to fire.

If he's a honestly responsible kid then sure if not no way. The problem is if he starts fn round with his buddies with it. That's when shit goes south in a hurry.
