To the editor:
A yes vote on Palestine UN observer status in my view would have been preferable, as just what is an Israel built on discrimination, bantustanization, brutality and ethnic cleansing? Seems from the West Bank settlement map, and the announcement of more settlement coming in the E1 zone, a Greater Israel is still the agenda of Netanyahu and his people. Thank goodness for those in Israel who hold a different, more realistic and moral long-term, view. Congratulations to the ALP for the shift from unadulterated support for the Israel which is. What is a good friend, but one who tells you the truth and is constructively critical at times? Yes, support, but let's be open and honest about the situation past and present.
Also, our 2013 Federal election could be seen in a similar light as so many correctly saw the last U.S.A election. President Obama and Mitt '47%' Romney stood in stark contrast. The American people made the choice which most felt reflected 'better' American values. I hope we make the right choice in Australia, too.
