wbmw (and chipguy) thanks for the detailed rebuttals to my devils advocate position, it was important to have the involved discussion as the subject comes up all the time. FWIW I think Clovertrail has come at the right time to see off WindowsRT at birth(death) and Clovertrail+ can take the battle to ARM over to Android. The real point about mobile is most of the money is in the devices not the chips and the top players like Apple and Samsung are going to carry on using ARM just because they can and it gives them freedom over specs and anyway phones are just as likely to sell on design as performance. Intel's job should be to provide superior chips to their beaten down competitors (e.g. Motorola) so they can challenge their ascendancy.
The PC market has just taken a pause before Windows 8 and the mobile myth pedlars seized on it to beat down Intel again as they have in the past. It won't last and as Intel's competitive mobile offerings start showing up in the bottom line it will be a myth that won't last long.
