Re: If (or when) they do change their mind (about automatically launching products based on every Intel CPU release), it will be because of products like Paxville.

Either you're trolling, or you've gone into full 'Droid tilt right about now. Joe, Paxville is not an impressive product, but it does offer a couple important things.

- First, it's a dual core upgrade that offers 30-50% more performance than Intel's single core products.
- Second, it offers continuity in vendors' roadmaps. It doesn't make sense for them to switch to AMD for 6 months, only to switch back to Intel 6 months later.

Implementing Paxville in their current server lines is a minimal investment for OEMs because it's based largely on existing infrastructure. The cost is small enough that the benefit of offering a dual core product, even one with less performance than Opteron.

You treat it as if it's the plague, but Paxville is not a disease, Joe. It's a CPU, you know - one of those pieces of silicon that goes into computers. Yeah, it's kind of silly to get so passionately excited about it like you do, because it's just business, and Paxville is going to sell very well because it comes with the Intel name and offers a decent improvement over the previous generation. Get over your Opteron frenzy, because Sun and HP are going to help AMD do well for themselves while Intel is behind. And they still have 3-5 months worth of time to gain end-user accounts and market share before this changes.
