From what I've seen, the main reason it's not as "intuitive" is because by now, most people have already been exposed to IOS/Android. That's what they know.

I remember when I first got an iPhone (I got one relatively early on, but I wasn't part of the idiot "camp in line" crowd), it took about a week to learn enough to get around comfortably on the device. In order to offer PC functionality (far more capability/flexibility than a phone or the current crop of tablets), any UI will have to be more complex.

We're running Win8 on three PCs in the house now (none with touch) and I've had about ~0 difficulty (including glitch-free upgrades on three very different PCs - one custom desktop, one Alienware laptop, and one "brand name" desktop). I use desktop mode nearly all the time, and honestly it's hardly different than Win7. I'm not sure what so many people are up in arms about - learn a few Windows-key shortcuts and you're set.
