Windows 8 is supposed to provide much better performance than Windows 7 and better security. They're also giving you the Pro version for a very low price so that you can run a virtual XP machine (included in the Pro license). This is useful for me as I typically connect to the office using a VM.
We're all going to have to learn Windows 8 sooner or later too.
