I believe we might have to wait until fins for that answer, my best guess would be there is some kind of debt that was with renu, that instead of paying for he gave back his shares in return for the debt we just need the fins to see how much or if that is even the case.
You are right he did not just walk away he got something in return i am sure, until the fins come out we will not know.
