Susie -- here's hoping it goes faster than that -- depending just where you are, how big the whole area around you is that's pretty well wiped out, status of feeder lines coming into your area that could be wiped out for who knows how far away from your location -- could in fact take an army of crews busting their butts 24/7 to get to you even by then

you mentioned the transformer flashes early on when your power was flickering -- never a good sign (tornadoes are generally difficult to impossible to see at night; in places where there are people and their artifacts, the one sure giveaway of a tornado on the ground within sight at night is the transformer flashes) (...)

would think a good argument could and should be made that a much wider area (beyond just the parts of lower Manhattan) should have been powered down ahead of and through the storm and then restored only systematically, with crews checking every step of the way -- every single transformer is real, time-consuming work to replace, and then there's that whole deal of just snapping your fingers and presto bingo bringing in thousands of them when you suddenly need thousands of them -- in a case like this, doesn't strike me as too harsh to view every blown transformer in areas like yours as a planning failure -- it's not like nobody saw this coming -- if all the transformers in an area like yours were still OK cuz the area had been powered down, recovery would still take time, but it'd be a lot quicker
