Jdaasoc,<<The nursing shortage is go acute that they recruit in the Philipines extensively>>.

It is an most unusual time in the US workforce. I live in Nashville. The Opryland Hotel is an attractive destination and labor intensive operation. They have literally tens of acres under roof complete with diverse living plant and tree environments. Not to mention running streams and any number of waterfalls, etc. Large complex. Large staffing requirements. Ten years ago they were running vans in a radius of 50 miles to offer free transport for workers. Could not meet their headcount need.

Five years ago they gave up and bought a large (400 -500 room, i think) motel near their complex. It has been used as a barracks for their imported workforce. Predominantly, Mexican.

So we now have, as do most states, a sizeable Mexican population. Really good hard working people for the most part. They will mow lawns or wash dishes in a Chinese restuarant.

My point is that they have filled a void and by doing so have helped kept the inlation rate down.

Yes the IT jobs are going to India or China. So where does that leave us?. For the moment too many working in health care administration. As you pointed not enough in applied health care.

We all know that the manufacturing jobs are not going to ever recover.

Middle management is on the rocks.

Was it Napoleon that said that England was a nation of shop keepers?.

So will we become a nation of bean counters?

Or hopefully, the American spirit is alive. Oh God do we ever need some bright working in their garages again.
