Brokers must buy the shares to close the account. If you move your account, other brokers will not accept revoked/defunct shares for deposit in new accounts. Brokers generally do not want to maintain the account with revoked/defunct companies.
Its been that way since trading started .. long before all this NSS blame game
Generally its its just a token payment.
People should read the rules of their broker agreement
