The Bush Administration is simply following the basic plan worked out at the UN for the reconstruction of Iraq. The same plan Kerry suggested we follow. A plan that has always included turning over sovereignty and responsibility to the Iraqi people by the end of this year. We will have to see if that can be done or if that will prove to be a failure.

I do not now, nor have I in the past accepted the PNAC point of view that regime change in Iraq will somehow magically transform the Middle East. I do believe, as I think the Bush Administration believes that creating a Palestinian State will help the situation. This I would think will do more to ease tensions in the Middle East that any war in Iraq.

I supported the war in Afghanistan, I support it still. Losing sight of Bin Laden, pretending as the Bush Administration has done that he is not a key to winning the war is I believe foolish, irresponsible.

What you would find is that if this policy of war in Iraq were subtracted there is little disagreement over terrorism. What is now and has been the crux of the argument is about the need for and the cost of the war in Iraq.
