The flu virus of 1918 killed 50 million people.
We have 6.5 BILLION people on the earth to date.
What we probably need is good pandemic to thin out the ranks. It is inevitable anyway. And a top projection of 150 million isn't even a drop in the bucket.
Life isn't horrific. That's our perception in the face of it when it touches us personally.
But the fact is, it simply is what it is. In the end, we are all going to cease existing as we identify ourselves now.
Bird flu is a lot more mobile too as it's carriers are both migratory birds and human beings.
On a side note. There seems to be a convergence very costly "negatives" eating away at the core of this nation... Team that up with Alan Greenspan retiring, possible devaluation of the dollar in 2006 and China buying up all our debt and you have the conditions rising for the "perfect storm".
"To stabilize the value of the dollar, the US needs a daily currency inflow of $1.8 billion.. The budget plan of the White House rests on unrealistic assumptions and completely disregards the most costly expenditures. The Bush administration assumes higher revenues by tax cuts."
Utter insanity.
