Brain,
I don't understand what makes "no sense" to you. There are reports that there are ships with Saddam's weapons on them or tunnels under Baghdad harboring weapons, or the oil wells are rigged but no one looks into the ships or the tunnels or the oil wells. That makes total sense....
if the reports are just more lies and propaganda of the Bush Admin so that they can continue to make their case by innuendo and BS, not by reference to reality or truth.
I have to agree with Syl on this: there aren't any very good plans for what to do with Iraq after the "regime change" other than put one of "our" dictators/group of dictators in charge (if that will even be possible for long, given the animosities between different factions in Iraq), but they have already planned how to plant the "evidence" that they think will justify their actions in the eyes of the world.
I don't think that the Bush Admin understand how deeply people all over the world--including here in the US, though there are obviously a lot "patriots" who think that to question their commander-in-chief is nearly tantamount to treason--mistrust them. Their high-handedness has created enormous emnity which will not disappear overnight, and many people will not believe their pronouncements without considerable independent verification.
