We bought that 30 acre plat for $1000/acre and sold it 18 months later for $2000/acre. That worked pretty well for us. We sold those 6 crops of alfalfa at a good price too.
BTW, I guess I forgot to mention that I had 8 or so uncles who were farmers. As a teen I worked for one of them who farmed a square mile---- that is 640 acres for those mathematically challenged. That was a business, and not gentleman's farming. I learned a lot from all of them. They all rotated crops. Soil gets tired of supporting the same crop year after year.
