181 would be a good first step and that will give the right example to the region. I also think we need to (and can) do more in direct help to the region using also the vast wealth of the Saudis (IMO they know it is to their benefit to have a peaceful region and they should be part of a long term solution as well). Instead of supplying weapons and military to one side or the other, how about building a hospital or two. How about training some doctors or establishing some education/college programs over there. As the lone superpower and by far the wealthiest nation, we have the responsibility to do more of what's right and just for the planet if we really are not just a bunch of evil hypocrites. Our 8% of the worlds population controls 50% of the world's wealth. It's about time that we stopped the policies of escalation and confrontation that leads to huge military budgets and instead use some of the money to good cause over there. I bet, over time (and no this will not happen overnight), our money will go much further in direct benefit than spending $10 million dollars per each smart bomb.
Now I know some will say this will never work. All I can say to them is that we tried your way, the Reagan and Bush way, for all these years of backhanded military escalation, confrontation and wars, and all you've gotten out of it is more killing, more escalation, more wars, more deficits and more Weapons of Mass Destruction that continue to proliferate around the world, till one day it will get so out of hand that there will be no planet left for anyone. So I say to them it is about time we try a different approach. And if it was just one thing we can do, it would be to STOP THE HYPOCRISY.
