Indeed there is an element of Tax fraud in the mix, especially in a couple of cases where they have removed shares without authority from 401K accounts.
It never made sense to me whey they would spend so much effort and resources trying to get shareholders to write down their shares.
It doesn't make sense. And frankly, I've never heard of them doing that. If a client asks what his options are, that will be one of them. But all this stuff about brokers desperately trying to convince people to write off shares in whatever dead company is just uncorroborated bunkum.
