micro59, regarding Wave and Seagate. I am still wondering what the Wave connection to Seagate is, exactly. I have to be honest with the board that although I could assume there is a direct tie-in to the trusted server infrastructure, I can't be sure. So at the moment I am under the assumption it is a client software encryption package that Wave has "first mover" status with Seagate. As others join the initiative of trusted drives, I have no doubt that Wave will be involved with them. However, I also believe that as time goes on, there will be additional client software vendors competing with Wave. A simple understanding of business makes me think that Seagate would want to have as many options for the client as possible, so Wave is not an exclusive on the client trusted drive for long. However, is there something deeper? Who knows at this point. Wave has been eerily silent for quite some time now aside from Atmel and ST news since practically January I think. Its almost all been PRs on shows and stuff.

micro,

that was crazy, I just read that article, and whalla, there's your kudo's to reach's find.

In two other articles it is clear that Seagate claims there is no drive performace penalty with their FDE implementation.

So far, as I understand it, Seagate is still only committed to shipping the drive, that third party software must be procurred seperately.

It would be nice to see it bundled (Wave KTM that is) but the price is likely much less that way (as per INTC e.g.), ahh such a dilema. Sell thrid party for more bucks, or pound it through bundled for less per seat?

I still really don't understand the Wave/Seagate relationship. Why isn't Seagate bundling KTM? Is it just a difference in price point feelings between Wave and Seagate? I'm not aware of other off-the-shelf solutions per se. Wouldn't you just be grumpy as a goat if you had an encrypted drive and then realise you dropped the ball on key backup and recovery just when you needed it? I know, enterprise markets, blah blah blah ... just seems weird to me.

Regards,

Dig Space.

micro59- From SHM

According to Wahoograd:

Since the announcement of product development work between Wave and SEAGATE, virtually every other disk drive mfg. has been calling Wave.
