Some of the strongest condemnations in the bible are against those who use the Gospel or Biblical message for monetary gain. It is one thing to ask for donations to enable a particular media or ministry to continue operations, but quite another to encourage folks to send in money to make the leader(s) of a ministry wealthy. Unfortunately, the practise is all too common today, and most of those ministries are accompanied by heavy doses of false doctrine, as would be expected.
Paul urges that not many should aspire to teach the Word because such are held to a stricter standard. Both Peter and Paul (as well as Jesus Himself) warn many times about the dangers of false doctrine, because only sound doctrine enables one to discern false teachers and heresy.
