Howardsville is old enough that there's probably some good stuff to be found. When the settlers arrived at their destination the party would get together and "sign" each others canvas roof from their covered wagons. I demo'd an old house once where the original owners/builders used this canvas as wallpaper on one wall of the living room. Someone else had lath and plastered over the top of it. It had all the signatures of the party and the kids had drawn pictures on it. We tried to save it, but it was glued down and falling apart. None of the pics we took turned out - it had faded pretty bad. I was sad to see that go.
