Gil, I almost hate to use the phrase (brings back bad memories) but 'Stay tuned'.

Gil.....We will have to wait and see what happens. Hope not too long, it would be nice to stay and be able to rule over who and what is allowed.

A special board for the "cult" members. LOL

I'd better step in before expectations get beyond my ability to deliver, which is why I personally don't like to discuss upcoming features or even ones I'm thinking about maybe doing...

He is, apparently, amenable to a "Closed-end board."...

This, certainly presents a possible solution for those who are sick and tired of wasting time wading through reams of garbage to get to the few "informative" posts about how EDIG is doing, to move on mass to such a Board envisioned by MATT...

It is by no means certain (or even "likely" at this point) that "closed-end" boards would ever be made available. If they were, it would be part of a general message-board hosting thing, having nothing to do with iHub itself aside from using the same software and being hosted by the same computers. They would be entirely separate sites paid for and operated by entities that want to operate them. We'd provide the hosting (including hardware, software, bandwidth, and support), the buyers would provide the rest.

It has been in the plans for a long time to eventually offer message-board hosting, but that is still anywhere from 3-6 months away.

And the price would likely be prohibitive for groups such as this. I don't intend to compete with UltimateBBS and the like. Anyone can go buy their software very inexpensively, find a hosting provider, and have their own message board up and running in very short order and with very little expense.

The kind of hosting that I intend to offer eventually is different because it's infinitely scalable and very navigable when there're a lot of messages.

The appeal would be to very large groups or organizations who would have the need for that kind of scalability. Organizations who need (and can afford) the ability to handle hundreds of thousands or millions of messages. Because that's a market that's not currently adequately addressed by available products.

For most groups or companies who want their own message boards with their own rules, etc, packages like UltimateBBS are a far better choice than waiting around for something I haven't even begun to develop yet and that'll be too pricey and represent massive overkill for most.

What Matt was doing was throwing out an idea. Brainstorming. Determining the feasibility of such ideas and making them reality is on my shoulders, so you're getting it straight from the horse's mouth (or its other end, if you prefer to think of it that way) that "closed-end boards" is not something to hold your breath for and if you simply must have an alternative, there's agoracom.com and there's also free or cheap site hosting all over the place (hypermart.net is one) and a plethora of off-the-shelf message-board packages that'd suit your needs and budget far better than anything I may or may not make available.
