It would be surprising if money were not leaving the US for Europe. There are a lot of reasons, here are just a few:
1) As a world leader, Bush is actually a pretty scary guy. Think about it. I can list some reasons if you like.
2) Bush's economic policy does not inspire confidence in foreign (or domestic) investors.
3) There are people in the world who will not invest money in countries or corporations that violate their ethical or political sensibilities. If I were an average anti-war investor from any one of hundreds of countries I might be pulling my retirement money out of funds that invest in the US.
4) Once the flow of foreign investment money starts leaving the US, it will increase for a time as others follow suit.
5) Should foreign investors pull more money out of US investments than comes in, it will become very difficult for the US economy to get out of the current recession/stagnation.
6) War with Iraq will not be over in 100 hours. It could last 100 days. Buildup is not completed yet... The US will not attack without overwhelming local force. Unless Sadam has a fatal heart attack or peace is negotiated, think of June before the Iraqi war is resolved. Then there will be the cleanup and rebuilding.
So if you wanted to invest your dinero outside the US, where would you put it?
