OK....getting technical now, but....

If this concept were to evolve....every posters alias would be followed by how many MEMBER MARKS and how many IGNORE MARKS that user currently shows in their profile.

To me, this is COMMUNITY....at it's VERY FINEST!

Besides being shown in the users profile the info could be shown on EACH POST...

THIS IS THE STUFF that would set IHUB apart from the other stock message boards!

No, it'd blur the distinction between us and RB in a small but significant way. Even RB abandoned a similar feature at long last.

And as someone pointed out to me in PM that addresses an angle I hadn't thought of: It's one thing for the system to say (based on user input) that a person is a popular read and has credibility, but quite another to have the system "label" someone as having no credibility.

I'm keeping an open mind on the subject, and it may be possible to get me to change my mind about implementing such a feature, but it hasn't happened yet and it'd take one helluva strong argument to get me to do so. "The majority wants it" only gets one about 10% of the way there on this particular issue.

The majority can be wrong.

As I said before, it's arrogant of me to sound like I know more than the majority, but it's not really that. The majority each has their personal interests at heart and they're not being asked "Would it have a negative or positive impact on the site as a whole?", while I have the site's interests as my motivator, and between Matt and I and our years of experience running these things (15 years of which I have), we've got a pretty good idea of what builds communities and what destroys them.
