That is an interesting question. Did you also have in mind the increasing overweight of the US population and the unbalance created by it? Could it cause North America to tilt over and sink into abyss? Let us know the answer of your old physics prof.
If you took three gallon pots of water and sealed them into three separate cubes where nothing could escape, then left one at [1] room temperature, [2] boiled one, and then [3] froze the other....would they all still weigh the same? If not, which would weigh more?, which would weigh less?
The weight will depend inversely on the volumes of the cubes. Assuming that the cubes do not get deformed when heated to boiling temperature or cooled to freezing temperature (if there is enough space above the water and the containers are sturdy enough to prevent deformation) the order of increasing weight will be [2], [1], [3].
