I had no problem with Obama not putting himself in harm's way and flying into Afghan under the cover of darkenss - don't forget at his insistance, the Seal of President of the United States on Air Force One was visible; he did not opt to use a plain vanilla airplane with no markings.
As far a a photo op with any of the leaders is concerned, Obama was pictured signing an agreement WITH Afghan Pres Karzai so I just don't see that as a big deal.
Obama's surprise visit to Afghan completely threw Willard Romney's campaign off-guard...Willard and "Mr. Noun, Verb, and 911" Rudy Guiliani met with NYFD members, but that story got blown off the front page by Pres Obama's Afghan visit/talk to the nation.
