Perspective: Nokia continued its relentless advance in the global smart mobile device market in Q1, shipping a record 5.4 million smart phones in the quarter. The CTIA reports that in 2004 Nokia, with 38% of the entire mobile handset market! did $3.3 billion in sales. This is for the entire United States, and represents not one new and expensive phone that requires specialized (assuming that it exists and works) network topology to perform as intended, but ALL FLAVORS OF PHONES FROM BOTTOM TO TOP OF LINE.
If Nokia's total smartphone sales are a record at 5.4 million, I think it is verging on sensational to suggest 4,000,000 CLYW phones would move through a single vendor in a market that isn't even among the top 5 (Italy is 6th largest market with roughly 60,000,000 wireless subscribers). I think that it is exceptionally aggressive to expect anything over 5% penetration of a single device into any market, let alone a new and expensive device by a new manufacturer in a mature market (which has less annual handset churn than younger markets according to reports)
