well said Andrew!..and following up comments
re: who cares about developing"alternative energy" sources--give us that oil now
yup..that's Bushy....of course the rest of the world DOES care about alternative energy sources... as does most of America I suspect...technology that is and could be used more widely here...if the bushies REALLY cared about America, its poeple and energy indepencdence. Please dont give me "the infrastructure for alt energy isnt there and costs are too high" THAT will ALWAYS be the case UNTIL we decide we want to free ourselves from oil....it can be done, it just takes committment, honesty, foresight, guts, something neither party shows. I believe Icealnd is building out a hydrogen economy...yes, tiny country & popultion, etc....granted, easier to do...but whats that saying ...anything worthwhile does not come easy....this administration has it backwards.

RE I think there is a great deal of arrogance and small-mindedness in our country today and an assumption that it is our god-given right to be dictating to the rest of the free world.
yup thats Bushy..some here know my views on how Bush has used "God" to help destroy the advance in embryonic stem cell research..i'm scared there isnt moer of an outrage about this and other religious pushes by this administration. Governemnts mixing of religion, God and politics is an outrage.
Of course Bushes love of God and human life doesnt matter when others are killed...its just those frozen embryos he "cares" about. (gag)
re: GW is nothing more than an empty suit with a wisp of an intellect and a B-actor's gift for mugging various looks of concern, compassion and strength.
yup..georgie is a good actor, better than Reagan..even has the masses fooled that his compassinate conservatism means something.
Ps: I voted for Bush, a mistake imho

And, talking about long range plans fo energy. We are now talking about a "Hydrogen economy" (and of course, all those empty companies in the fuel cell business are running...), but can someone tell me, please, where does the energy come to create, or I should say, harvest that hydrogen. Sure, we have a little amount of hydrogen in normal gas and oil wells, but that is peanuts. The majority of hydrogen will come from hydrolysis of water, and as we all know, that process will take more energy than the energy we might get from thereafter burning that hydrogen (either directly or through a fuel cell). Unless we start to think fusion, cold fusion or safe nuclear (including disposing of nuclear wastes into the sun), we are nowhere from energy independence. One can also think of exploiting micro worm holes, inversion of matter to anti matter and subsequent reaction of matter with anti matter, but these, for now, are just science fiction....
