Your research is most likely correct about New Zealand. Back when I began my Peak Oil board, I put a geologist, the late Dr. "Zapata" George Blake, on retainer for a year to acquaint me with the Peak Oil topic and to guide me in my learning. We had lengthy talks on many Saturdays; he was quite knowledgeable.
I learned from Zapata George that he had a house built in New Zealand and he had a condo in Canada; his home was in Zapata, Texas. He wanted to make the move to New Zealand, but I believe that he was cut down my cancer.
In my youth, I was researching the prospect of moving to Australia, but doing so would have been questioned during the Viet Nam war. It was a nice pipe dream which I wish happened.
