That I am. My animals anyway, much like my kids. <g>

I'm sad though that we no longer have any duckies. Every last one has been eaten, and not by us. The one I miss most is the one we named "Jurassic Duck". I don't even remotely miss the Muscovies who chased him out of his personal pond so he later got eaten at another pond.

"The Big Project" for this spring is to finish the earthwork around the back pond then fence it in along with the adjoining yard. We're going to get creative with the fencing to keep out even raccoons and snakes, so the next batch of duckies should only be vulnerable to owls. And they really don't take too many of them. And the only fish we keep in that pond are goldfish and koi. We don't let the ducks go to the other ponds because they're full of large-mouth bass who love baby ducks.

It's a hard fact of country life that ducks, like rabbits, exist for only one purpose. To feed other animals.

I love ducks so much that I've got a number of different ducks in my office, like a beanie-baby one, a small wicker-basket one for holding loose change, and the ever-present yellow rubber duckie with the "Go2Net" logo on his chest. He's sat on top of my monitor for years.
