Low slowly began to regain consciousness. For three days he had been held in an opiate stupor. He couldn't remember much outside a few scenes that seemed to be a mixture of Fellini's Satyricon, Disney's Little Murmaid, starred Daryl Hannah and featured music by Jackson Brown. It vaguely reminded him of being in college.
"Doctor my eyes....."
He was in a building that appeared to be part of a cave and extremely old. Inside there were relics of Hindu culture, Zorastrian culture, Buddhist culture, Nestorian Christian culture, Manician culture and Islamic Culture. An old woman was preparing food. She was knelling before a fire. Outside a small group of men armed with Chinese AK47s milled about. The old woman handed him a bowl of noodles in a broth with vegetables and some goat meat.
"Have seen my briefcase?" He asked her.
She simply turned up her palms and shrugged her shoulders.
A small dwarfish man came to the door. He introduced himself as Fung Dung. He told Low the story of how they had found him in a ditch at the bottom of the Turpan Depression. They had brought him here the night before. The man led him down a corridor. They passed through a secret door and appeared to emerge from within a large entertainment center.
Fung pointed down the hallway to the right. "Down there you will find a bathroom with a shower. I put some fresh towels in there this morning and a new set of cloths. Take your time."
"By the way here is a little advice. My spousal unit hates it when someone leaves the seat up. Be careful."
