good .. as i walked last night in dusk, every time i said, "Hi" to others passing i thought, while stepping on sidewalk cracks on purpose, damn, the "Black Code" still exists and is not superstition at all .. the bit in yours of caution 'while walking in white affluent neighborhoods' rang in my ears, while most all others had earplugs into more pleasing music, i'm guessing .. the way it is these days.
In this neighborhood i have had one take a swing at me in some 18 years .. there were two white guys, his friend held
him back as i gave him a 'what's the problem?', and continued on my slightly less then, (sheesh, idiot him) merry way.
One other time way back, about 3am, while walking in a Sydney city park, hmm, 3 coming toward me .. they split .. thought, oops, to encircle? .. i walked slowly pretending no notice, then about two feet from one i ran at him and pushed him out of the way .. ran into an open street and yelled at the top of my lungs .. 'yeah, HEY!! .. come out here you bastards!' .. was furious! .. yelled and yelled .. lol, thank goodness they didn't come ..
One other time in Sydney on coming out of a downstairs bar, an idiot was peeing on the street .. i glanced at him while walking by, woke up in the hospital .. later on asking a friend who had been walking ahead of me .. WTF HAPPENED? .. he said, you were king-hit from side-behind and your head hit the pavement .. by memory, the ambulance bill back then, early '70s, was $60.
My experiences all white .. Australian aborigines still suffer some discrimination in Australia, too.
