I for myself have no education outside High School
Big deal, my friend.
Albert Einstein got thrown out of the equivalent of high school.
He wrote in his autobiographical Epitaph that he would forever bear the burden of guilt for having cheated to get later degrees but given the free time it allowed him he gladly bore that burden.
An agency I worked for fired the secretaries in a cost-cutting move. Then the engineers were forced to write their own letters and other communications. The result of the illiterate communications was horrendous.
Engineers are definitely not English majors as a whole.
The secretaries were rehired in a hurry.
The emphasis on lapses in grammar, bad cut and paste, etc. are astounding to me.
Winston Churchill once reprimanded for ending a sentence with a dangling participle exploded: "This is the kind of pedantic nonsense up with which I will not put!"
This reader doesn't particularly care if a writer splits infinitives, dangles participles, copies the wrong date in the name of a convention, does all manner of harm to grammar though she is undoubtedly a fine old lady.
What I hope for is clear communication of facts and ideas.
