like the afganis, the proscription against idol worship can get transmuted by interpretation into no pictures of people and destroying buddhas.

So dependent on your interpretation, I can imagine that a public 20 foot blue menorah is more likely to be an idol than a regular size one seen through a window in someone's home.

I do not know, but I always think giant public ones are strange and not represntative of a celebration for staying alive during a war
