At the end of Clinton's term he attacked the sacred NRA. The result was an all out NRA attack against Gore's 2000 presidential campaign with Gore losing his home state of Tennessee. If Gore wins Tennessee (Florida wouldn't have mattered)he would have been President instead of Bush and the resultant insanity of wars and economic collapse wouldn't have happened.
