F6, yup, same reaction here .. a matter of fact while typing the first reply the telephone rang .. a young friend
(mid 30's) who works at a Sydney methadone clinic .. he mentioned conflict in conversation .. fun coincidence
.. (and we, too have, heh, mini-eruption conversations) .. so i immediately said, hey .... you would be interested
in this .. it was on topic .. on coming to that bit .. i leaned back in my chair and said, into the telephone ......

'WHA!! .. no way .. it's much more the Republican thing .. no equivalence there at all......'

lol .. my young friend knows a bit more about American politics now ..

Well at the very least you could have pointed out the absurdity of my statement to me.

"What these idiots don't get on either side is that religion, contraception and sex between consulting adults is a frigging private matter."

I won't even attempt to parse your description of my comment bolded above.

But for your edification I'll reiterate my position.

I have bigger fish to fry.

For starters the Catholic church gets a lot of things wrong. So does just about every religion that you can think of. Have you paid attention to the news lately?

I would hope you're not going to justify the killing of 6 Americans over a screw up that should not have happened to begin with. After all we burn flags in this country (moral equivalent) and we don't kill people over it. Maybe I missed your moral outrage over the shootings of Americans but in either case I'm on record over mixing Christians and Muslims in a continuing war. I believe the president will back me up on that. Enough is enough.

Next the whole debate over who should pay for contraceptives and the Catholic Church's moral outrage over it is pathetic. And I'm on record on that as well though you may not find it here. Suffice it to say I'm part of the 98% of Catholics that are going to hell.

And further more I really don't care what my neighors are doing in the privacy of their home.

Now can we move on to matters that really count or am I missing something.

Like I said I have skin in the game as well as every parent in America.
