"It is also written with Jesus saying (and I am paraphrasing) "If you call out my name only in your last hours, I will say I do not know you"

ccbangler...

You might re-check your paraphrase - there is nothing like that in the bible. I suspect you are thinking of the following:

"Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'" (Matthew 7:22,23).

Jesus is talking about professing Christians, even those who claim to be doing His work, but who have never accepted Him as Lord and Savior in their lives. It is not enough to merely say "I am doing" thus and so "in the name of Jesus" - whether the supposed "work of the Lord" is leading a Crusade in the Middle ages or "miracle healings" of the sick today. If the person's heart is not right with the Lord, it is not "in His name" - such "good works" are in vain and worthless before God.

Jesus wants those with a believing and humble heart to do His work, and empowers them to accomplish His will. This passage and many others should strike fear into the hearts of those who tell folks to send in their prayer requests on the back of a one hundred dollar bill but are just in it for the money.

Just my opinion of what the Bible teaches.
