JMKel, thanks for posting what you found. Intel had the foresight to spend >$7B in 2001 and >$5B in 2002. Turns out they were early, but if they waited till chip sales decisively rose, they would have their new fabs ready at the next cyclic chip sales peak - just in time for another downturn. I think many pundits don't get that.
