This is your sandbox & you have to do what you feel is best for iHub & your style of management for the public's participation in, & your administration of, this forum. At least you asked for opinions....which is more than other sites do.
Having said that, if you don't do what I recommended, I will never talk to you again.
Fred brings up a great point and something I wasn't very good at explaining.
We are all humans. That presents an entirely set of different dynamics that I don't think can be covered in a set of rules or applying exactly the same punishment systematically for rule breakers. In the world of programming, sure. In the real world, no. If that were the case, why would we need courts and judges to decide time frames of punishment, community service, etc? It'd all be on a table where you pick the crime and to the time laid out. It's not like that. Do you think cops always go to the letter of the law? Heck no. I've gotten several times with cops because I was legitimate, explained my case and didn't kick up a fuss. Didn't get written up, but was a lot more cautious in the future and learned how to drive within the rules. According to a rule book, he should have written me up and I paid. Doesn't work like that. You want to encourage legitimate people that made a mistake and change/jail people that are speeding just to speed (read: breaking rules just to piss people off).
Yes. And Lucky YOU! Then there are the times where truly innocent people get busted because the cop has a nasty arrogant vendetta that does not allow the ability of the perpetrator to weasel out of the alleged offence! You've wrongfully been the "BAD COP" at times!
What in the world did I just say? Not sure. LOL I guess what I'm saying is that I could potentially not get as whacky as I did with packers and the whole 'kiss my ring' post...maybe be a bit more professional. But that isn't the way I was raised. I have always treated people with as much respect as they offered me. I only push as hard as you push me. On the whackyness, I probably agree. On the systemized, timed suspension thing, I'm just not for it.
Matt, this isn't something that you have to be for, or against. I think that deep down inside, that you are hoping that those that you Jail will interact with you on the Jail Board and redeem themselves, and all of life will be rosy. Sadly, things don't work that way in real life. And I doubt they ever will in CYBER Life.
I think the answer to my "problem" (if I have one) is to be slightly more professional in beating up offenders and have an Admin notes option so I don't forget things.
Yes, and I anticipate hearing that Bob has made that available to you. Every cop writes "reports" and keeps a "file cabinet". I'm surprised that you haven't done that manually all along!
Seems most of the people replying to this agree/have no problems with things the way they are. Others are offering good, but minor change suggestions.
Matt, as always, everyone is trying to help to keep making IHUB the best it can be! It's working!

Edit: Another example (which I just deal with less than 30 seconds ago) is how do you systemize/standardize dealing with people that break rules within club boards? Different rules apply there. Which further explains my point that the way THIS community is built (Dare I mention that SI and RB are dying with their management styles), you have to have a human right in the middle....no real systematic suspension or standard rules apply.
Whether a Club Board or a Stock Board, the rules should be the same! Why do you think otherwise?
For better or worse, iHub has always been a reflection of my personality. And I'm not sure that will change.
There is nothing at all wrong with your personality. What I see is only a maturing of your personality for the website, which only relates to the natural maturing that all humans experience over time. Not to worry.
Edit2: One mo' thing. As we all know, anybody that makes a decision always has someone that disagrees. That will always be true and I welcome that. As far as needing a mentor, I don't think so. I've gotten this far learning by myself, why not the rest of the way.
We've all felt this way in the past. But as we age we begin to recognize that we "don't know everything". That is when we begin to realize that our whole life is all about learning as we go.
Again, hate to repeat this, but SI and RB are dogs. Why do anything the same way they do or did?
Perhaps they are dogs because they have such weak ADMIN rules to keep the website functional!! Perhaps you don't see that by not seriously having and enforcing rules, that IHUB will become yet another SI or RB?
Bob, there are as many people who hated you as there are those who liked you. Same will be true here of me. I'm dealing with a different user group though. A larger, more diverse group (eventually) with the free and premium concept.
Matt, don't overpressure yourself into thinking that what you need to admin is harder than Bob had to admin at SI. Reality is that this is the internet, and the ugly problems will still be raising their ugly head even TEN, nay....TWENTY years from now!
Edit3: After reading this message, I still don't have a clue what I just said. Looks like babble to me. maybe it means something to somebody.
Well, it meant a lot to me. And I hope that my responses helped to sort it all out for ya!

Matt,
good news & bad news
The Good News - it does means something to somebody The Bad News - the somebody is me, gotmilk :o)
You are a "late bloomer" with this thought, age wise, as i "hit this" about age of 4 :o) and took steps to correct this on my first day of school at age 4.5 as noted on my profile page.
"Hooky on first day of kindergarten."
Now i could really go into depth here and for sure exceed any character limit of post size BobZ has in place, but another one of those good news & bad news situations has presented itself.
Unlike above when i did a silly, this unfortunately is serious, and while it would be best if i Private Message you with it, thats not my style for many reasons that could not be understood in the context of what is now being initiated by me here.
But i will water-down and limit my respond in that rather than i supply comments, as in my opinions as answers, i will simply point to a source of text that contains what is knowned as them forks in the road, or possible directions to take, and more to the point here, advice given to you that i will note by me as dangerous if you allow it to steer your direction.
Its actually a reply to you post, of which this is a reply to same.
