steph, this is total baloney.

first, the actual number given by the UN in 1948 is 300000 "refugees". I can give you the actual UN document where this is stated.

In the twenty years between 1923 and 1943, the arab population more than doubled. But the British white paper states that this is the official number, the unofficial number of undocumented immigrants was far higher.

Because most of the socalled arabs in the region were recent immigrants, UNWRA had to alter the usual definition of refugee. they used a definition as anybody who had been there a year ( maybe 2). Since Unwra was started in 49, and the war started in early 48, there was already 18 months into those "year or two"

So most of those "refugees" were actually arabs that didnt come from within British Palestine. they came from Iraq, syria lebanon and egypt mostly. and many had just come, like in 45

So what did all these nice countries do: they told the UN that they would refuse to allow any of their citizens back into their countries.

And thats how you got refugees.

how you get 6 million I will be damned.

If you dont want to beleive this, I can give you quotes from gaza residents

Steph, Not for nothing, but most of the 10M Mexicans are not here legally.

You are blaming Israel for our geopolitical problems, I think, and that's inappropiate.

We are universally hated not because of Israel but because our elected officials played right into the Islamist's hand. We may have been hated before but this half baked war fiasco, and the administration's arrogant, ignorant foreign policy has increased the hatred exponentially. Infact, the whole world is screaming about Iraq and US policy. This has been going on for quite a while, but the screams are not abating. They're getting louder.

Osama wants to be a superpower. Bush has afforded him the luxury of forging alliances while our global standing tanks. Osama and the Islamist's want us out of the mideast. They want the Jewish state out of Islamic land. They want us isolated. Bush has taken the terrorist movement, adopted unilateral, half-baked policies, and isolated us all by himself. Israel is an excuse. Just as Abu Whomever could care less about Kyoto and global warming, Osama and the Islamic elite don't care about the Palestinians. But the Palestinian plight as well as US policy has played well for Osama's jihadi rally call.

Our policies in the mideast have historically been self interested, and the plight of the Palestinians is rotten. War is war. But rather than cooperation and global coalition, the Bushies have made us the bad guy in the war on terror. It's hard to believe they didn't understand the consequences of their actions. Regardless, we are not safer under the war president. We are so much more vulnerable, but it's our own fault. We mindlessly reelected the regime. We brought the propaganda, and nationalistic bs. Bush's leadership has been a disaster.

To be fair, it's not Israel. It's not France or Germany. We did it to ourselves.
