I think that abortion is actually legal in Israel, though each case is determined by a triumvirat of a Rabbi, a Physician and a psychologist, and there are of course other limitations. The easy cases are when the mother's life is imperiled, but "imperilment" includes consideration of the future mental state of the mother, not just her physical well being. At least, that is what I was led to understand, but I may be wrong on that.
