well, ok. 10 thousand years ago there were mastodons.

Has any one heard of elephants being fossilized 10 thousand years ago. They just might not be reported, I am no archeologist.

For that matter are the well known animal species we have today existant in the fossil records? If they are not, we have a whole bunch of new species.
