Garden Rose .. Iraq Criticizes Exxon Mobil on Kurdistan Oil Pursuits
re Exxon, just a little detail .. lol, the post then developed into a bit more ..
By ANDREW E. KRAMER Published: November 12, 2011
BAGHDAD — A deputy prime minister overseeing the oil industry has issued a sharp rebuke to the largest American oil company operating in Iraq, Exxon Mobil, over the company’s reported efforts to expand its oil holdings into the semiautonomous Kurdish region in the country’s north.
The statement from the official, Hussein al-Shahristani, said the central government had cautioned Exxon against pursuing oil deals in Kurdistan, which the government says will remain illegal until long-awaited rules can be worked out to split revenues among Iraq’s fractious regions.
Mr. Shahristani’s office issued the statement a day after The Financial Times reported that Exxon, based in Irving, Tex., and the United States’ largest petroleum company, had become the first major international oil operator to sign a contract in the Kurdistan region — a move the company has neither confirmed nor denied.
OK .. since the it's all about oil is a popular theme it's worth having a look at. Others i suppose could get it in a flash, but it took some time for me to find a list of oil companies with contracts in Iraq, finally this one ..
Iraq 4th Bidding Round Offers New Opportunities for IOCs
Iraq is one of the few countries where a high volume of reserves remains yet resources have vastly been under exploited. Although Iraq ranks highly as an oil producer, major fields are yet to reach their expected peak production rates and only a few fields are in development.
In early 2011, the Iraq Oil Ministry announced a fourth licensing round. Included in the round are twelve licenses that were not previously on offer in the provinces of Najaf, Karbala, Samawa, Diwaniya and Anbar. The fourth license round is on track with the ministry’s plan to pursue unexploited reserves. Development of infrastructure will be needed in order for Iraq to achieve a target production capacity of almost 12 million b/d by 2017.
The Iraq oil industry has of course been heavily hit by U.S sanctions, war and weak infrastructure. At the end of 2010, the United States voted to lift sanctions against Iraq opening the country up to foreign investment. The last few years have seen the Iraq Oil Ministry pursue an ambitious development program to develop fields and increase production. There have been three license rounds in Iraq since 2008 and twelve contracts were signed with International Companies (IOCs). A two phased development is being pursued in which current producing fields are being developed to maximize their potential, followed by the development of non-producing fields.
Megaprojects
Terms of the contracts on offer by the Iraq Oil Ministry are by no means favourable (service contracts in which companies earn a fee for each barrel of oil produced) but the appeal of high prospective reserves has so far held the interest of IOCs.

SO .. those make a partial list of the oil companies involved in Iraq now .. have a look at the complete list .. if it was all about oil in the Bush et al mind in the first place it appears it didn't quite work out that way for the principal invaders .. wonderful to see, isn't it! .. of course, we have to consider that it may never have been just all about oil .. i have only faint memories of long-term negotiations on the energy front over there after things settled down .. was it a couple of years?
Anyway NOW for me it was GREAT to see the number of different countries involved, actually it seems the Iraq government has done a rather decent job on it ..
Aside: sorry i just disappeared yesterday. Shopping called. :)
