Opinion:
Farmers are going to have to put up with a short or unpredictable growing season (floods, too wet, dry or flattened by hail).
They have to adapt.
When I was in Finland September of 1972 I saw harvesting of potatoes, carrots and cabbage..short growing season sustainable.
The potatoes looked runty, carrots were short, cabbage was small. The cut off carrot tops were fed to milk cows, nothing wasted. The main fruit I saw was apples..small and with apple worms. Hearty people them Finns. :-)
