Not much to talk about nic. SH is the spot for incessant whining and over-the-top pumping...not all, but many. I've managed to avoid the spiteful bashers over there by putting them on ignore. That said, here is my take for you and others here that haven't built enough resistance to go to SH.
Nokia is in the negotiation process; Wilan wants a higher royalty rate; Nokia is balking; Nokia put a lot of the potential patents-in-kind barter bait into Core so now they will likely have to pay more cash than beforehand. Oh well, these things take time.
LG action has oral arguments with judge Kaplan next Thursday on Wilan's objection to Magistrate judge Peck's claim construction regarding V-Chip; the 402 V-Chip patent is in the final stages of ex partes review at the PTO. Expect some movement on V-Chip by Q1/12. Two streams: stream one is that LG is found to infringe, pays for a icense plus lost revenue from the reduced rate Wilan had to give all existing licensees and the rest of the tier 1 companies take a license; stream two is that LG is found to not infringe but the patent is confirmed by the PTO resulting in the non-licensed tier 1s taking a license, but rates increase from the current level. A third stream whereby the patent is rejected is so remote that I do not even include it in my thinking.
Apple and HTC, who may be de facto proxies for QCOM, had a status conference this past Monday on the EDTX litigation on the 802/222 patents (recall that these patents were the basis of the Q1/11 settlements with Intel, Broadcom,et al). No word. Suspect that Apple and HTC want to pay, but on the value of the QCOM chips; Wilan says it's on the value of the device. QCOM doesn't want to take a license for optics reasons, maybe. My guess: Apple and/or HTC are the companies referenced by Wilan in the statement, "It is important to identify that we have not accepted offers from large potential licensees as we do not believe they represent fair value. Had we accepted these offers it is likely that our 2011 financial performance would have exceeded guidance." More waiting.
