The markets closed out the trading session in the green today as higher oil prices and lower petroleum reserves were trumped by solid second quarter earnings.
Volume was light with 1.81 billion shares trading on the NYSE and 1.51 billion on the Nasdaq. Decliners outpaced Advancers today by a margin of 18:14 on the NYSE and by 17:14 on the Nasdaq.
In individual stories, Host America Corp (Nasdaq: CAFE) closed 48.03% higher after extending its ramp-up after yesterday's news that it will install lighting system in 10 Wal-Marts. On the downside, Majesco Entertainment (Nasdaq: COOL) closed 48.33% lower after the CEO resigned and the Company warned for FY05.
Tomorrow, traders will be watching for data on Retail Sales, Retail Sales ex-auto, CPI, Core CPI and Initial Claims. They are all due to hit the wires at 8:30 A.M.

(Nasdaq: PPDI) today announced an agreement in which Takeda acquired the development and marketing rights to all dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP4) inhibitors previously granted to PPD under an agreement between PPD and Syrrx, Inc. Takeda acquired Syrrx, Inc., now known as Takeda San Diego, Inc., in March 2005.
In exchange for terminating the collaboration agreement and transferring its rights to Takeda, PPD will receive an upfront payment of $15.0 million USD, plus development and sales milestones, and royalties on sales of DPP4 inhibitors if approved for marketing.
