I just feel very bad about the coming war which IMO has nothing to do with freedom, WMDs, or personal dislike of Hussein; it's control over oil. I also detest brainwashing - and I see plenty of this in the media.

I would agree with you. However, that's not the path current administration is taking.

I think you need the reality check and to clean your glasses. The U.S. government mostly has never done anything to help defend anyone that it was not already in its best interest. Otherwise a lot of the problems around the world would have been solved long ago. The only pathetic thing is exactly what Theodore Roosevelt said back in 1918. Not criticizing Bush and the rest of the oil corporation at the white house.
